I’m an ecologist. Specifically, a riparian ecologist, but my work often takes me well outside the riparian realm. The purpose of this blog is to share my experiences, opinions*, and my love for this beautiful biodiversity hotspot we call California.

The technical stuff: I’m a 12-year veteran of Urban Creeks Council, Rosgen-trained geomorphologist, and Master of Forestry. I’m also a proud McBridester, amateur birder and fish ecologist, and constant learner. I am a strong proponent of reconciliation ecology and of bridging the science-practice gap.

*I occasionally share opinions and interpretations not yet assessed in any academic paper, in addition to, you know, well-proven facts and whatnot.
